How to Make These Awesome Mini Monster Cupcakes

Posted Mar 18, 2016 in Uncategorized   2 minutes

With Halloween right around the corner, these fun mini monster cupcakes from Bakerella are guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser!  She gives you amazing instructions with tons of photos to get you started, and then you can let your imagination run from there to create your own unique versions.

Step #1 Bake & Stack

First up, you need to bake your cupcakes.  Bakerella used a chocolate recipe that she gives you a link to, but you can use any flavors that you’d like.  I’d imagine these guys would be amazing with a tie-dyed batter, or white cake colored to match the monsters.

Then she cuts the tops off half of the cupcakes and turns them upside down stacks another cupcake right side up on top of that with some icing between to hold them together.  Then she finishes that off with a quick layer of frosting to hold it all together and give the monsters their shape.  Finally, she pops them into the freezer to firm them up a bit.

Step #2 Decorated with Colored Frosting

She tints some buttercream frosting some wacky colors and loads up her frosting bags.  Different piping tips will give you different textures for the “hair” on the monsters, so play around with it and come up with the right designs for you and your customers.

She also set them on a stiff doiley and set that on a square of cardboard to make it easier to handle before she began frosting.

Working her way around the stacked cupcakes, she added the hair to cover the whole thing.  For some monsters, she alternated colors.  Others she did all one color.

Step #3 Embellishments

She used a lot of super fun decorations to give these little guys some amazing personalities.  Full size and mini Oreos became mouths and eyes.  Candy eyes became single or multi-eyed monsters.  Bone candies became antennae.

With all of the fun options for candies in stores right now, there are soooo many possibilities for making these awesome.
