Diving into setting up your website can be an intimidating process. You have to think about the design of the site. You have to try to figure out what pages you need – and what info should even be on those pages. Let’s take the fear factor out of it – and look at the basic stuff you should definitely have.
#1 Contact Info
You need to make it easy for people to contact you, so be sure to include:
- Phone Number
- Fax Number if you have one
- Your Address – with a map link
- Any info to help them find your shop – such as saying you are located in XYZ Shopping Center next to ABC Store
- Hours of operation
- Holidays that you are closed
- Any instructions about contacting you – such as lead time for custom orders

I also like how she includes the phone number and a link to order online in the footer of the site on every page so it’s always right there. You could even add a custom order form to your website.
Your menu should include photos of the items you sell and should make it easy to see what flavors are specials or seasonal items and what flavors you keep in stock year-round. Also – make sure you update this regularly! Especially if you have specials that rotate and change out.
You don’t have to have a professional camera to take photos that will work for the web, your smartphone camera will do just fine. You can even use a simple stand and a box to control lighting and get a good photo.

#3 Links & Awards
Your website is just one piece of the puzzle. If you are on any social media channels, like Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, or LinkedIn, then be sure to provide a link to those from your site. And make sure you put a link to your site on your social channels.
If you’ve won any awards, or participate in any local organizations, you can include those as well.
#4 Photo Gallery
When you spend all day making treats that look as good as they taste, it’s important to include photos on your site. You should already have photos of your regular items as part of your menu, so use the gallery to showcase your speciality items – like custom cake orders.
Make sure to group your photos into categories that make it easy for someone looking for something special to navigate. For example, you might have a gallery for wedding cakes, cupcake tiers, birthday cakes, mother’s day treats, etc.
